Yesterday was definitely a great day to be a mom. Jay belongs to the Honor Society at school and because of this he was chosen to be a cheerleader for the 8th Grade Power Puff Game. He has been practicing his cheers for several weeks in hiding. In the morning I was worried that the game would be canceled, because of all of the rain. Between Thursday and Friday afternoon we had nearly 2 inches of rain. In fact, we had half an inch of rain Friday morning alone.
When this storm first passed through our area on Thursday night, it left us without power for over 5 hours. Poor Jay was home alone when the power went out, but he had the dog to keep him company. We went out to dinner (can't cook on an electrical stove with no power) and came back to a dark neighborhood. Elisa decided to go to bed, while Jon, Jay, and I played Monopoly by candlelight. The power finally came back on after 10 pm.
By time the powder puff game began at 1:30 pm Friday afternoon the sky was cloudy and overcast, with the sun breaking through and thunder roaring in the distance throughout the entire game. The school was divided into blue or red. Jay was a cheerleader for the blue team. The girls were intense throughout the entire game. It was entertaining watching the girls slide on the grass from being so wet. The "cheerleaders" started out the game wearing regular clothes, but at half time they came running out of the school wearing cheerleader uniforms. All of the kids and parents in the stands went wild. I can't remember the last time I was so entertained during half-time and the boys loved it! They did their little cheer and continued to stay on the field trying to do other dances, flips, and cheers. I must say Jay looked really cute in his cheer uniform. Some of the boys had problems fitting theirs on. The final score Blue 30 Red 24. More photos will be posted on Facebook.
